Say Hi to the new Female Mayor of Tunis

First woman in history to be Mayor of an Arab Capital . Souad Abderrahim ran as an independent candidate but was backed by the Islamic Ennahda Rebirth Party  during the election, she dedicated her win to all Tunisians and to all woman who have struggled on the corridors of politics.


Souad was elected to the Constituent Assembly of Tunisia and served there to 2014. She came ahead by beating 25-22 votes against Kamel Idir, the candidate of the Nidaa Tounes Party. After her win, Souad was careful with her use of the term, "Islamist" used to descibe her and Ennahada , by clearing stating that she worked with all parties to improve Tunisia.
