Gone Opera singing

One of the many hilarious and confusing moments of moving to a country were you thought you could speak the language and then you get there and realise that the language you know and the one you barely spoke are two completely different things , is that in a bid to assimilate and tell yourself that you understand the language, you begin to sign up for various activities in the native language just to aid your learning faster.

While signing up for the activities, you read the information and you think you understand what it's all about and then, of course, you sign up. A few months down the line, you get a call to remind you of the event you signed up for and between activities and listening to caller you hear, " you will be there right, the address is blablabla...., I will send you a message with the address " and you answer, "sure, why not, i will be there..."😀

Day of the event comes and you are there right on time or best, let's say being African, a tad late but not soo late...😂

Getting in you hear some immaculate voices sounding like those from an orchestra performing only for the kings and queens in the medieval times, and you begin to fall in love, you start to walk faster to go get a seat where the voices are coming from, while silently thanking your stars to have secured a free ticket to a show that would cost some hundreds of Euros(who no like awoof ba?).

Only that as you enter the room you see a group of young people standing in a circular rehearsal formation, a lovely and warm lady beaming at you and welcoming you to the group, at this time, my locality could not stop my index finger from entering into my mouth and my teeth biting down on it in regret (Osofia style...😧)..... Chaii!!

As the lady explains the activity leading to a future event, those question bubbles start appearing in my head, " Aunty, what is going on here?" "How did you apply to this one" "what???, opera singer ke?" "What cord, no, code or tone, no na tune, whatever do you sing self?"🙃😵

"Which voice self...?"

"How was it that you were not able to read "singing" or "opera" in this language while signing up?"... Zut!

Shebi, we have signed up now,  no going back ooo, we must sing opera and take the challenge. Even if na hmmmmmmm, we hum for the group, we must! Let's go.!!!😂😂

My fun life and language shock experiences, I have got loads of them being that I am always travelling to locations where I have none to beginner level of language knowledge, this one just happened yesterday......

Have you experienced any like this?
