Nigerian Story on Education

Not driving away from the fact that Black lives matter, because it really does and there are still areas that needs correcting in the world in regards that.

However, this research is 100% truth. Nigerians are highly educated and intelligent. Across the globe the completion is high in various countries as migrants, and there are so much research and information on these. Often self motivated like Ekeh said in the video. The average Nigeria family or parents struggles to get the child educated, for example if a mother or father does not have the best properties, clothing or jewelries but gives you a solid education with the money they have, then they are happy with themselves and this in turn works as a self motivation mechanism for the kid who automatically wants to do best knowing how much his or her parent as sacrificed for him/her to get to that level where he/she may be in education.

When I studied for my masters in England, one of my best lecturer once called me into her office and wanted to know why a Nigerian was very particular about her grades , because this particular Nigerian student had a squabble with one of her team mate who wasn't putting in much effort into a team work they had been given collectively.

The Nigerian student wasn't having it and definitely wasn't going to deal with failure on the assignment and she never fails to mention that in classes as well. The lecturer wanted to know why she was so passionate about that. I said to my lecturer, "well am glad you know one great thing about Nigerians, we are passionate people, who do so many things with passion"- ,

A little cultural lesson: An example: you know how we can tend to sometimes look like we are arguing aggressively when having a conversation, and yet finish laughing and sharing drinks, food and jokes, it was just us showing and sharing passion during discuss, no one is fighting and no harm is done. When there is an 'official' fight, you will always be notified so that you don't get it wrong .....😂😂😂 - always truthful people .

Back to my conversation with my lovely lecturer, I told her, the reasons she behaves so are but not limited to:

1. She genuinely wants to succeed and there are so many reasons behind this, starting from her self need to prosper, to the fact that she knows what her parents has given up for her to be where she is; to a thing that may sound silly before others, like her neighbors, uncles, aunts, all family relatives counting on her - mostly not to fail.

2 . Her success story is another 100 plus more children's motivation, hope and dream to achieve something in their own lives.

3. To live a better life than what her parents have given her, so she also can in turn give her own children better. Also there is no harm in a little splurge here and there if you have more income, like in a Louis Vuitton bag??? 🤣🙆🏽🙈🙈

4. We are thought that education is key to many or most open doors 🚪 🤑🤑🎉 👑....

5. Every Nigerian has a dream in their head or somewhere deep in their hearts to work hard and make the country a better place. Never minding being a tool toward's the country's development and growth. To be a solution or find a solution for the country.

And to do this one always have to perform 10 times better and harder than the other person in class, who has a better and higher privilege or access than the Nigerian.

Always a die hard people, meaning a failure here is never seen as an end but a restart button to push and aim higher.

When I finished she was overwhelmed, she smiled and was very impressed and I could see empathy in her almost teary eyes, she thought all these could be pressure on the student and she felt more respect for the student. Mostly she saw the positive in trying to achieve something good better yet a greater good . The next time I saw her with the student they were sharing a deep laughter ....

A common adage in Nigeria- Fear of failure is the beginning of wisdom- You see, your mum, grandma or even aunty depending on which is closer to you, will chase you down the isle or street with a wooden object for failing just a language subject 😂😂😂😂. Meaning you don't even want to fail Maths and come home, you best lend or rent a friend's home....😂😂😂

xoxo.....
