Fashion on the red carpet has always been the second best discussion of any award of same calibre as the AMVCA. It is not uncommon to see very unique designs and styles in whatever form or quality, there will forever be people who love to admire or criticise these designs. Some outfits are worn to pass a message (which it is most of the time anyway), to advertise, to tease or ease. While some bring their cool games, others bring in the razzmatazz, the main objective of all however is to be seen.
Being that such awards are supposed to be a classically formal affair, dinner dresses has been the norm to wear to such occasions but full dresses have not been unheard of. At this point we can be certain that no matter the attire non is ever so unacceptable, just that our views may differ as human beings.
Remember the blue silk spaghetti-strap gown and evening coat won by Grace Kelly to the 1955 Oscars designed by Edith Head, that eventually became the inspiration to many red carpet event dresses worn till date by many celebs and non-celebs?
The white Givenchy dress worn by Audrey Hepburn to the 1957 Oscars ?
Can one forget the 1970's Oscars, Elizabeth Taylor's 69-carat pear-shaped Cartier diamond worn over a low neckline to show off her necklace?
I could go on and on about the legends of red carpet dresses through out the entire day.....but lets take a breather and move on to the AMVCA 2013.......
Genevieve Nnaji VS Heidi Klum
Now here comes the legends of African red carpet dresses in the 21st Century, and am forced to start with the white dress worn by Genevieve Nnaji designed by Veronica Odeka of Vane Style. Like it or like it.......hehehehe; this outfit will forever pop up in any discussion, shows or images concerning the AMVCA 2013. The design speaks red carpet worthy and 21st century actress worthy. It may not however speak religion, but we all know this aspects are often not touched when it comes to fashion on the red carpet. Celebs over the years have been known to wear plunging neckline dresses to awards that have been far more ridiculous; just this year we had the leggy model Heidi Klum at the Oscars 2013 with almost same cut. Genevieve I must say got a lot of things right not just with this dress but on all the dresses she wore for the night.
1. She got the colours right, from white to yellow, what better way to get our attention but in these colours.
2. The long dress design is not just elegant but also suits her body shape.
3. Her jewelry was concise and very beautifully adorned.
4. Her black purse was well shaped to fit the occasion, although we would have much rather gone for a different colour of purse and shoes.
Overall score 85%......XOXO
Osas Ighodaro
This Olive beauty did not fail to represent and create a fashion cliche for the AMVCA 2013. She looked fabulous, radiant, gorgeous and sophisticated in her spaghetti-strap v-neck dress by Mac Duggal. Osas has always been one to watch out for on the red carpet right from her early days in the industry. From her Cardillac Records Premier dress to her 42nd and 43rd NAACP image awards dresses, trust me she is hot on the trail. Her presentation skills and allure at the awards was so well delivered and showed fine art...(she came for rehearsals, i suppose....lol). We could go on about her but lets stop here
42nd NAACP Awards AMVCA 2013
1. she has the charisma and class of a star to which she carried this AMVCA outfit
2. Lovely colour for the dress which graciously suits her skin complexion.
3. Her hair style couldn't have stood any better on such a dress.
4. Accessories were so well worn to accentuate her facial features.
Overall score 80%......XOXO
Rita Dominic
Riri as fondly called by many is not a new face to the glamour of the red carpet treatments. She delivers and stands out often, well ahead of many others in the industry and we are not just talking about being photogenic and beautiful (well, that's what many use to judge fashion, these'll be people of many sentiments though....).
We thought her Champagne colour satin design dress by Moofa with a low back cut looked similar to the blue dress and turban she wore to the Meeting premier. As much as we would have loved her to have a different look, she still looked simply fabulous, and luscious in this outfit.
The Meeting Premier AMVCA 2013
1. The nude like makeup for the champagne colour dress could not be better chosen
2. The jewelry on the dress adds richeness to the neckline and the entire outfit
3. Colour chosen to match both the necklace and purse was a subtle shade of green, sweet.
4. Her red carpet pose and carriage dignifies this dress
Overall Score 75%.....XOXO
